IGNATIY VISHNEVETSKY
Adapted from the bestselling novel by Emily Griffin, our next film, SOMETHING BORROWED, stars Ginnifer Goodwin as an attorney who ends up in bed with her law school crush, played by Colin Egglesfield, on her 30th birthday. Years ago, Goodwin gave up the opportunity to date him to her obnoxious party girl best friend, played by Kate Hudson.

Now, Goodwin lives vicariously through Hudson's relationship with Egglesfield. The two are engaged.

Egglesfield and Goodwin have feelings for each other. Hudson is oblivious, but Goodwin's other best friend, played by John Krasinski, is in on the details.

Heavy on plot but light in tone, SOMETHING BORROWED is a quickly-paced melodrama with a good cast and not really much else. I like Hudson’s turn as a character who is at once overbearing and pathetic, and Krasinski's supporting role as Goodwin's sarcastic foil makes great use of his knack for being both smug and likeable at the same time. But this movie is nothing new or especially insightful.  Thumbs down for me.

CHRISTY LEMIRE
Yeah I don’t like Kate Hudson here at all.

IGNATIY
You don’t like Kate Hudson here?

CHRISTY
No I don’t because I think she’s drawn so one dimensionally.  I can’t even recall what she does for a living.  Does she even have a job? I’m not sure.  She hangs out and parties.

IGNATIY
Everyone is vaguely a lawyer in this movie…I’m not sure…

CHRISTY
She’s not even vaguely a lawyer, she didn’t go to law school.  She makes fun of the lawyers.

IGNATIY
Oh you’re right, you’re right.

CHRISTY
She makes fun of the lawyers for being smart and thinking about stuff.  She is so obnoxious, it makes no sense to me that these two intelligent, likable people would want to spend any time with her.  Much less, A - be her lifetime friend and B – be her fiancé.  I mean Ginnifer Goodwin is insanely likable and so cute and the two of them together, her and Colin Egglesfield – the young Tom Cruise looking dude, they’re cute together and they have a nice chemistry and Kate Hudson just is obnoxious.

IGNATIY
Really?  Actually I find Goodwin kind of bland.

CHRISTY
Really?  She’s so cute.  How do you now like her? She’s like Sally Field-ish, she’s adorable.

IGNATIY
No, I think to me like Hudson and Krasinski are the strongest parts of this film.  I mean they’re really all it’s got going for it.

CHRISTY
No, I always like John Krasinksi, I do, I like, like again, you’ve phrased it very well because he’s sort of smart-elecky and obnoxious ,but he’s kind of boyishly cute at the same time, but yeah a lot of this just did not make sense to me.  If Colin Eggelsfield’s family is so old money and so proper, why would they be so thrilled to see him marry Kate Hudson, who’s trashy, party girl and not the proper…

IGNATIY
Maybe she’s old money and we just never, we never…

CHRISTY
We’ll never find out because she’s not fleshed out at all.

IGNATIY
Well, there’s maybe a sequel…

CHRISTY
I hope there’s a sequel, we can talk about that next time.
